St. Croix, US Virgin Islands
July 15th through 18th

We arrived on St. Criox via a Cessna 402 island hopper (just like the show 'WINGS') then drove to
Divi Resort and Spa in our crappy ford focus (never again). St. Criox was very industrial
and rural. Capital Christansted was alright but not much going on in town.
We drove around and then swam a couple beaches; Rainbow Beach and Crane Bay where 'The Wall' is located for
scuba divers. As we drove around the island we did find two great resturants; The Gallion
and Duggans Reef. Just before our last day, we sailed on Big Beard catamaran to Buck Island Reef National Monument which
is one of the finest marine gardens in the Caribbean. The island is surrounded by the coral reef ecosystems which support a large
variety of native flora and fauna, including the hawksbill turtle and brown pelican. |
St. John, US Virgin Islands
July 18th through 25th
After St. Criox we arrived to the Westin Resort on St. John and enjoyed wonderful weather with daily snorkeling. We did
rent a much nicer Suzuki for our daily excursions. We adventured around the island and explored Haulover Bay, Jumbie Bay and Cinnamon Bay.
Enjoyed a day sea kayaking from Haulover Bay up and around Round Bay. Our guide showed us various types of soft and hard coral, brain sponges,
and a sea cucumbers which once out of the water it would conform to your hand. We sailed on the Bad Kitty a ultrafast catamaran to
Virgin Gorda (The Baths), The Indians, Cooper Island and Jost Van Dyke for the day. Oh, we even had a couple of hours playing tennis and learning
from a pro. |
